Day 329: Recap!

Day 323: All In A Day's Work

Today we talked about how God does so much in a day that in our eyes in would amount up to a thousand years. We talked about how God is constantly moving and even though we may have to wait a bit longer His timing is nothing less than perfect. We focused on 2 Peter 3:8.

"It’s really God that’s giving us the means to take care of ourselves. We have to set ourselves aside to see and understand how the glory of God is constantly being played out in our lives."

Day 324: God Wants the Best For Us

Today we talked about how God only wants the best for us. We talked about the common misperception that God is some mean old man in the sky that wants us all to perish. Spoiler alert, it's not true. We focused on 2 Peter 3:9.

"He calls us to repentance so that anything blocking us from Him can be removed and we can have freedom to dwell in His presence."

Day 325: Patience My Love

Today we talked about seasons inspired by the Hillsong Worship song 'Seasons" off their later album. We focused on the lyric, "If you are not done working, then God I'm not done waiting." We focused on Psalms 27:14.

"Sometimes we act as if God is only making us wait because He can, we act as of God is making us wait for no reason at all. But have we ever considered that the reason we are still waiting is because God is not done working?"

Day 326: Thanksgiving!

So today was thanksgiving in America, so we talked about taking the time out not to ask for anything but to thank God. We talked about how important it is to sometimes just stop and thank God for all the wonderful things He has done and He is doing. We focused on Psalms 28:7 and Psalms 30:12. 

"There is something beautiful about acknowledging what He has done and what He continues to do."

Day 327: Ride It Out 

Today we talked about waves and surfing, and what that means is we talked about how living life can sometimes feel like trying to surf a storm without falling off your board. We talked about how sometimes the storm can be very strong but we have to ride it out. We focused on Hebrews 10:32-36. 

"Life is scary, sometimes those waves are bigger than we thought, but even in those moments of fear we have to ride them out. God knows what we can take and we cannot just walk away because we are afraid, but we must endure, we must endure because we know what’s on the other side, we know what it will all be worth in the end."

Day 328: It Makes No Sense

Today we talked about walking in the light, and how if we are going to walk in the light with Christ we cannot have an ounce of darkness in us. We talked about how we sometimes hold on to darkness because for the longest time it was all we knew. We focused on 1 John 1:5-7.

"It makes no sense for us to claim that we walk in light when we are still living in darkness. We must let go of anything keeping us in the dark and know that God is taking us on a beautiful journey and we cannot get to where we are going in we cannot see, spiritually and physically."

Day 156: Recap

Day 149: Family Matters

Today we talked about how much our biological families matter to us, and how important it is not to neglect them for a spirtual family. We focused on Proverbs 6:20, 1 John 4:20, Psalms 133:31, and Ephesians 6:4.
"God instructs us to love our neighbor, our neighbor is our blood brother and sister, our first and second cousins. We are called to love our family as ourselves as well. As Christians, we often look outside of our family and home base for people to love, but they are right in the next room. They are the families we were born into."

Day 150: The Value of God's Word

Today we went through Psalms 119 and explored the value of God's word, as the writer of Psalms 119 did. We focused on many scriptures in Psalms 119. Psalms 119: 72, 105, 127, 130, 160, 165, 103, and 104.

"It is so important to live by the word of God and stand firm on His promises but when we choose to see the value of it and the need for it. We must choose to live for Christ and obey His word.

Creation hasn’t moved since he spoke it into existence"

Day 151: Loose Grip on Plans

Today we talked about planning but allowing God to direct our steps, and even allowing Him to change our plans and trusting that they are so much better than what we could ever come up with.

We focused on Proverbs 16:9.

"We have to know that wherever our foot lands, it’s exactly where God wants us to be."

" Sometimes interrupted plans are better than the original."

Day 152: The Message not the Messenger

Today we talked about the importance of the message and not focusing on the messenger. How we often miss the message because we are so focused on the messenger. We focused on John 3:16-17 and John 10:10.

"We are all vessels of God, and He uses us and our lives and testimonies to spread His word and save other people. It doesn’t matter what you look like, or where you come from, if you have given your life to Christ you are a vessel for His message."

Day 153: I Have this Hope

Today we talked about the hope that we have in Jesus Christ, the hope that we can look towards in the midst of doubt and advesity. We focused on Psalms 3:2-6.

"We have this hope that even in our darkest hour God is our light, even at our lowest moment God’s surrounds us with His love and peace."

Day 154: It Can't All Be For Nothing

Today we talked about the purpose God has for us here on Earth. We focused on John 3:16, and highlighted the drastic measures God took so that we may have a relationship with Him.

"We cannot go through life being so focused on heaven that we are no good to the earth. While we’re here God has given us a purpose, He gave us this life for a reason. He sent His son for a reason. He wouldn’t go through all of that for nothing. Don’t throw it all away."

Day 135: Recap!

First off Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there.  Happy Mother's day to all the Mothers that read this blog.

Dear Moms,
Thank you for bringing us into this world and threatening to take us out from time to time. We love you, even though sometimes we get on your nerves, make you mad, and have even made you cry. Despite all of that we love you and thank you for all you do for us. We love you, mom!

Day 128: If It Had Not Been for the Lord

Today we talked about what we really mean when we say, "If it had not been for the Lord..." We focused on Psalms 94:16-19, 22, and Psalms 94:22.

"When we look back over our lives and when we see where we came from we will see that God has had His hand on us all along."

Day 129: God is Not a Feeling

Today we talked about feelings and how we sometimes let our feelings dictate our faith. We focused on Jeremiah 17:9, 1 John 3:20, and Romans 10:9.
"Sometimes when it comes to our faith we have to ignore our feelings and not allow them to dictate what we believe to be true about God."

Day 130: No Picking and Choosing

Today we talked about how we sometimes pick and choose which parts of the bible we will live by, and what we agree with when it does not work that way. It's all or nothing. We focused on James 2:10-11, 2 Peter 2:21, and James 4:17.

"We have this ‘good enough’ attitude, that we aren’t doing everything we should or could be doing but what we are doing is ‘good enough’."

Day 131: The Idea of God

Today we talked about how we can be in love with the idea of something or someone rather than the thing itself. We often do this to God. We focused on Matthew 6:21, 1 John 4:19, and Isaiah 40:28.

"We find comfort in knowing of God, but it’s just enough so we do not have to entertain the actuality of having a relationship with Him."

Day 132: A Dose of Humility

Today we talked about humility and how our generation could use a huge dose of it. We talked about the need to be selfless in this day and age. We focused on quite a few scriptures today, Proverbs 11:2, Matthew 23:11-12, Matthew 18:4, James 4:10, Philippians 2:3, and 2 Chronicles 7:14.

"Sometimes we are so focused on ourselves that we don’t really see what’s right in front of us, we don’t see the world because we are too consumed with self."

Day 133: The Golden Rule

Today we talked about respect and how we treat others in comparison to how we not only treat ourselves but expect to be treated by others. We focused on Matthew 6:31 today.

"We all have standards of what we will allow and what we won’t. We all have lines that we draw that people are not allowed to cross. We have a basic understanding of how we should be treated, about how we expect to be treated by our peers. What if we take all those standards, those lines that are not to be crossed, that basic understanding of how we are to be treated; what if we take that and apply to how we treat others? "

Day 128: Recap

What a week it has been, I am just finishing finals weeks and move out day, and I am on my way home, but here is the recap of the week.

Day 121: From Adam to Jesus
Today we talked about to connection between Adam and Jesus, and how Jesus is referred to as the second Adam. We focused on quite a few scriptures today: 1 Corinthians 15:45, Colossians 1:15, Philippians 2:8, 1 Peter 2:24, and Colossians 2:14.

"Jesus did what Adam could not do by carrying the sin of every man on His shoulders and taking it to the grave and being raised from the dead three days later. By doing so he defeated the power of sin and death, so we no longer have to live in sin. We are no longer connected to the sin of Adam."

Day 122: Don't Wear Yourself Out

Today we talked about taking care of ourselves, our physical bodies. Something that gets neglected often when it comes to our faith. We focused on Genesis 2:2-3, Mark 2:27, Exodus 34:21, John 4:3-6, and Mark 4:38.

"...All this to say, Know your limits. I know we all want to be limitless and superhuman, but our bodies can only take so much. Listen to your body when it’s telling you to stop or rest, most times it’s right."

Day 123: No One Compares

Today we dived into Psalms 89:6-7, and talked about what we really mean or believe when we say no one compares to God.

"If we know that there is nobody or nothing that compares to God. Why do we act like there are things that can compare to the goodness of God? What I mean by that is sometimes we use God as a last resort like He couldn’t give us what we needed had we gone to Him first."

Day 124: Let's Not Jump to Conclusions

Today we talked about how many times we jump to conclusions too quick. We focused on Genesis 12:10-20 and Proverbs 2:8.

"...We think we know how the story is going to end or what will happen because we got a small taste of something. when we really have no idea. "

Day 125: On the Detour

Today we explored the book of Jonah, and how even though Jonah tried to run from God, he encountered God in the midst of his running. We focused on Jonah 1-3:5.

"I think many of us know what it’s like to not only run from God but encounter Him in the midst of our running. We, like Jonah, often have to go through the hard times in order to learn."

Day 126: Carrying the Wrong Cargo

Today we continued with the story of Jonah, but we focused on the men on the ship. These men tried to save Jonah even though it was causing them all to suffer.

"Sometimes we try to play superhero to people not realizing we are getting in the way of God’s plan. God knew what He was doing, the only way for the storm to cease was for Jonah to be thrown overboard, which is why they never made it to shore."

Day 121: Recap

I apologize for today's devo being so late. I am prepping for finals week, and writing a lot of papers. I will make sure that they are on time this week. Thank you for your constant support and here is this week's recap.

Day 114: Bend But Don't Break

Today we talked about how God has made us unbreakable. We talked about the idea of the way palm trees bend very far but they never break, they can stand through the worst of storms. We focused on Isaiah 54:17, Matthew 13:3-6, 2 Corinthians 4:9. 

"If we are not deeply rooted in Christ it is easy to fall because there is nothing holding us down. It’s not the strength of the tree itself that keeps it standing, but the roots that hold it up and keeps it from falling. If there are no roots than it might as well be a tumbleweed heading in whatever direction the wind blows."

Day 115: Living Far from God

Today we talked about living far away from God, and professing with our lips but our hearts are far from it. We focused on Matthew 15:8, Hosea 6:6, and Psalms 73:26-28.

"We as the body of Christ are on a constant search to bring these perishing souls to Christ. Sometimes we have to stop and take a look in the places where the Christians are, there are souls perishing from the pews they sit in every Sunday."

Day 116: Stepping in the Desert

Today we started an unintentional series about the Exodus, as the Israelites left Egypt and stepped into the desert on their way to the promised land. We focused on Exodus 14:10-14, Exodus 16:3, an Numbers 14:4.

" Not only did God make a way  for them to cross the Red Sea and out of bondage, He drowned all the oppressors in the Sea. They could no longer pursue the people of Israel. There was no one to come and take them back, if they went it was solely their choice."

Day 117: Walking Through the Desert

Today we talked about what happened as the Israelites went through the desert on their journey to the promised land. We focused on Deuteronomy 8:2.

"We cannot skip over what it takes to get to where we are or where we are going, there’s always going to be a journey and it is in these desert places that we grow the most."

Day 118: The New Generation

Today we talked about the new generation that would lead the people into the Promised Land. We talked about how millennials are often called the Joshua and Caleb generation. Today was more about response to the passage. We focused on Number 32:11-12.

"The Joshua generation was built differently, they are  different people than the ones who left Egypt, this generation was born in the wilderness, they were born in the desert, this was all they knew. They were born into the rough times, they know what it is truly like to wander around in the desert all your life, because they have been doing it since the day they were born."

Day 119: The Courage to Act

Today we talked about David and Goliath and how sometimes all we need is a little courage. We focused on 1 Chronicles 28:20, Deuteronomy 31:6, and Joshua 1:6 and 9.

"We have to have faith in God, and know that apart from him we can do nothing. I know it’s scary and sometimes we have to put ourselves directly in the crossfire. Sometimes we have to run straight into the face of danger in order to defeat it. We have to be strong and courageous, as God tells Joshua."

Day 114: Recap

Day 107: Your Mistakes Don't Define You 

Today we talked about Peter and the time he denied Jesus. We went through a lot of different scriptures including, John 13:36-38, John 18:17, 25-27, Romans 7:15, John 21:7, 15-17, and Matthew 16:18-19.
"We all make mistakes, we’ve all screwed up in our lives, I know I have pretty bad in my 24 years of living. There is conviction which is from God, that leads us to repentance, and there is self-condemnation or condemnation from others that leads us to regret. One is the right way the other is not so great. God can change a repentant heart, because we are giving our sin up to follow Him."

Day 108: Help Me Maintain

Today we talked about being able to maintain when life is hard, when we know that God gave us the tools but we still have to go through the fight. W focused on Psalms 119:28, 1 John 5:5, and Matthew 17:20.

"We overcome through Christ. At our weakest  moments, that is the time to hold on to Christ the most. These are the times to stretch our faith a bit further. To go that extra mile. It’s the moments when we are the weakest that we find God to be the strongest. The moments when we are doubting that we find God to be faithful. God is always there, we just have to have an ounce of faith. "

Day 109:Strong Enough To Hold

Today we talked about God making sure we are strong enough to hold the magnificent blessings He will hail on our lives, and also knowing that God is the solution to every problem, we just have to choose to obey HIs word. We focused on John 21:1-11.

"There are three things to note in this passage: Problem, instruction, solution. God is the solution to all of our problems but we must listen to and follow His instructions. God always has a solution, it never fails.   

Problem: They had no fish after fishing all night long.

Instruction: Throw the net on the right side of the boat.

Solution: They hauled in 153 fish.

There is a step in between ‘instruction’ and ‘solution’ called obedience, and this is where we decide how the story will end."

Day 110: The God-Shaped Hole in Our Hearts

Today we talked about our desperate need for for God, how we all have this hole in our hearts that can only be filled by God. No one and nothing else can fill it. We focused on Isaiah 45:18 and Genesis 2:7.

" We have that hole in us that only God can fill. It’s His breath that fills our lungs, His Holy Spirit that carries us through every day of our lives. There is nothing and no one that can fill these voids, there is no one else but God. No one else can fit into that hole but Him."

Day 111: TheWay He Loves Us

Today we dived into the story of Hosea and Gomer, and how it is a parallel of our relationship with God. We focused on Hosea 1:2, 3:1-2, and John 3:16.

"The most beautiful part about it all is that God can be angry at us, but He will always look at us and say, “But I love you.” He loves us so much.

God tells Hosea to go love His unfaithful wife. Go find her eventhough she is committing adultery with another man, love her. God doesn’t say leave her, He says love her. And it will be a symbol of how he stills loves israel even though they have turned to different gods. God is not into giving up on His people, even when we deserve to be left out in the desert. He says I will never leave you but I will forever love you."

Day 112: Dare to Fail

Today we talked about taking chances, and giving ourselves a chance at life. Stepping out of our fear and taking a leap, even if that means we fail the first time, we have to get back up and try again. We focused on Proverbs 24:16 and Galatians 1:10.

"Failure isn’t always bad, we learn from these things, we find light in the dark places, because we have to. We grow in the valleys, so when we get to the mountain tops we understand what it took for us to be here. Failure is a part of life, it is also a part of success."

Day 100: Recap

Day 93: Let's Talk About It - "Forbidden Subjects"

We started the week by kicking off the "Let's Talk About It" Series. This series was dedicated to the things you told me you wanted to talk about. This series is meant to start a conversation and talk about the things that are usually pushed to the side in church. I call these forbidden subjects, because they are often pushed off as sin and when they are talked about it is very cautious, we don't want to get too deep. Well we rebutted that ting week and talked about it.  We focused on Mark 7:8 today.

Day 94: Let's Talk About It -"Broken People"

Today we focused on Psalms 34:28, and 147:3. We talked about how we have so many people including ourselves walking around broken and how sometimes people tend to overlook it.
"We live in an era where everything must be okay, and when it’s not we put up a facade. This generation has the best poker faces I have ever seen. Because we don’t have time to deal with people who are really suffering, even if that means we ignore our own pain. We don’t have time to dig deep down to the root of our issues and be healed by God. We cover it up with a band-aid until the infection spreads and we can no longer hide it. "

Day 95: Let's Talk About It - "Single and Waiting on God"

Today's devo was dedicated to my single people. Being single is a great reward as we use the time to really find ourselves in Christ and be defined by who He is. However there is a flip side to being in your twenties and single, it gets lonely. We focused on a few scriptures today, 1 Corinthians 7:32-34, Matthew 5: 27-28, and Ecclesiastes 3:1.
"I am well aware of how hard it is to be single sometimes. Most of the time it’s good, we are enjoying life without the worries of being attached to anyone. We are enjoying building friendships and platonic relationships. We’re enjoying finding ourselves and learning more about ourselves everyday,  but some days it’s just hard not to be lonely. A lot of times this loneliness is brought on by sexual urges, and let me tell you, they will blindside you. We have to make sure that we are covered with the full armor of God, because these ditches of temptation are the hardest to jump over."

Day 96: Let's Talk About - "Relationships and Sex"

Today was dedicated to our people in relationships and we talked about sex. We focused on Song of Solomon 8:7, Matthew6:33, 2 Corinthians 6:14, 18-19.

"Romance and love is a big part of many of our lives at the moment, rather we are dating, in a committed relationship, engaged to be married, or married already. I think the biggest questions we have when it comes to question is, what is a Godly relationship, and how do we have one. The first step to having a relationship with anyone else is having a relationship with God, and finding our worth and identity within Him. Same as yesterday, there are a few topics of discussion. "

Day 97: Let's Talk About It - "Why We Serve God"

Today we lightened the subjects up a little bit, stepped into the semi shallow ends of the pool. We talked about why we serve God. We focused on Genesis 2:7, 1 John 4:19, and John 3:16.

"I have learned that I am nothing without God. I don’t exist without Him and I cannot live apart from Him. I have seen God’s faithfulness first hand, and I have learned to trust him more and more with my life. God is the only person who has never let me down. God is the only person who is constantly there for me even when I didn’t acknowledge His presence in my life. I need God every second of everyday."

Day 98: God Brought Me This Far...

Today we talked about being grateful for where God has us, because we often focus on where we are going but we must learn to dwell in the moment, as it was one where we're going. We focused on Philippians 1:6 and 1 Timothy 6:6.

"I think our generation believes that we can't be happy until we are where we want to be. We base our happiness on our “success” We aren’t content with the present, we are constantly moving and rushing towards the future because that’s where we want to be, and we miss the adventures and the beauty of where we are. If we are constantly running for the future and what is ahead of us, we will never have time to stop and enjoy the present because we are constantly moving. It won’t allow us to stop, because at one point the past and the present were the future, and if we keep rushing through them because we want something more, we will miss what God is doing right in front of our eyes."
