Day 3: Who Will I Become?

There is a difference between the person we are and the person we want to or aspire to be. Many times we think we are something we’re not, because we do not have an outside perspective of the person we truly are. Sometimes we are dissatisfied or disappointed with who we are or who we have become. We even start to anticipate who we will be in the future, we think so small of ourselves sometimes. We are so much better than we think, we have to give ourselves more credit.
As we ask ourselves who we are, the next step is who will I become? Honestly, that’s up to us. We know that our identity is in Christ we have established that, but next we must let go of what we want for ourselves and latch on to what God has for us. I’m not going to lie and tell you it’s easy it’s hard, because many times we don't see God’s plans, we can’t see how He is working things out. That’s where faith comes in (See Hebrews 11:1). We must trust God enough to give Him all the plans that we have for ourselves and in return get so much more because His plans are bigger.
Do we want to be the person God created us to be, or the person we think we should be. Growing up many of us are told to be “good people” and so that’s what we aspire to be. We are generous, we go out of our way for others, and we just want to be a good person. But in the eyes of who? Who do we want to notice, how good of a person we are. I hate to say it, but just being a ‘good person” isn’t enough, we must have a foundation on which we stand, because one day someone isn’t going to see us as good, and there goes our foundation. If our foundation is in Christ and Christ alone, we don’t worry about who we will become because we know it’s in His hands. We aspire to be like Christ, we live to please Him, and we cannot be moved, It is better to please God than man (Galatians 1:10). There’s a fine line between the will of man and the will of God. When we are in God’s will we’re exactly the person we need to be, the question is, is that who we want to be? Our vision of who we are should line up with who God made us to be. We can’t become the person we want to be without God.

Proverbs 14:12
There is a way that seems right to man, but its end is the way to death.
Ephesians 5:1
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
Our main goal should be to become like Christ, to live like Him. Imitate the perfect man.
Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you: I appointed you a prophet.
No one was born without a purpose, we were all created to be something we were created for and with a purpose. God has known who He wanted us to be from the very beginning, He’s appointed each and every one of us for a specific purpose in life.

We often think that we know what’s best for ourselves, and yes it’s hard to trust that God can do something that we can’t see. We must realize that God’s plan is far greater than anything we can imagine ourselves. Just think of your biggest dreams and multiply it by infinity, it’s unthinkable. But with God it’s possible. We have to let go of the thing we want for ourselves, let go of what seems right to us, and give it to God. He will show us what’s right and what’s good. He will lead us to be the people we are meant to be.
God’s plan is bigger and greater.

Reflection
  1. Who do I want to be?
  2. What do I want for myself?
  3. Does what I want for myself line up with what God has or wants for me?

Prayer Time
As you pray ask God where you stand when it comes to His will. Pray about what was discussed today and carry it with you throughout the day. Know that God has a plan for you, just submit to Him. speak candidly and honestly with Him, and remember prayer is just a conversation with God.
