Day 208: True Colors

Ephesians 5:13
But everything exposed by the light becomes visible--and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.

Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

What are your true colors? What do they look like? I’ve always heard people say, especially when they’re angry at someone or felt betrayed, “Thank you for showing me your true colors.” Meaning you're not the person I thought you were. You’re not the person you have been pretending to be. Many times people make mistakes and it ruins how people view them. Other times people have ulterior motives that are revealed. Whatever the situation may be our true colors will always be revealed. There are a few things I’d like to point out today.

Showing our true colors is not always a bad thing. We are almost never the people others think we are at first sight. Sometimes our true personality isn’t revealed until someone really gets to know us. We all have an ‘idea’ of who we think people are when we first meet or see them. I think the problem with this is, and it’s something I pray about all the time, we often assume the worst about people. For me people always say they think I’m mean or find me intimidating. Once you get to know me you find that I am the least intimidating person ever and I’m not mean at all. I  also believe that due to judgements people pass on us before getting to know us we hold back from showing who we truly are. We have to learn to let our colors show and fly no matter what people will think about us or say about us.

Point two, our true selves will be revealed. I don’t know if you all know what it’s like to live a secret life but I do, and the fear of being exposed is unbearable. When I was younger my mom would always tell us, “everything done in the dark will come to light.” I think many of us can look back on our lives and see that at one point we were not the best people we were actually pretty bad and terrible people. We can see a point when we were pretending to be something or someone we’re not. Everything that we do in the dark, will eventually some to light. Everything we try to hide God knows what we’re doing, we cannot hide from God. We must be able to own up to our sin and surrender before God shows who we really are and what’s really going on in our life. We often talk about how people reveal their ‘true colors’ to us when we are hurt and we find out that they aren’t who they say they are. What about when we’ve hurt other people? Everything will come to the light eventually, the question is when the light is flashed over our lives what will be revealed?

Which brings me to my next point. Let your colors be beautiful. When I think about it, it always brings me back to the fruits of the spirit. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness. Let these colors show. When people see our true colors let them see love and joy, patience goodness, all the fruits of the spirit. These should be our true colors. It’s not always a bad thing, it can be and actually is a good thing. Let it show, let it fly.

All this to say, be a good person, live right according to the word and will of God. Let you true colors be beautiful.

Reflection

Day 124: No One Compares

Psalms 89:6-7
For who in all of heaven can compare with the Lord? What mightiest angel is anything like the Lord? The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God. He is far more awesome than all who surround his throne.

It is safe to say that there is no one who can compare to God, no one on heaven or earth. There’s no one who can get to the level of competing with God because no one is near comparison with Him. No one is heaven and no one on earth can compare to who God is. The scriptures say the highest angelic powers stand in awe of Him. There is no one nowhere like Him, God just is. He is the only person in the universe who can do the things He does. God is the only being who exist outside of time, no one else can say that about themselves. That is why eternity is in His hands because He was before anything else, including time. That is mind blowing.

I just have a couple of questions seeing that we know that there is nobody or nothing that compares to God. Why do we act like there are things that can compare to the goodness of God? What I mean by that is sometimes we use God as a last resort like He couldn’t give us what we needed had we gone to Him first. Sometimes we allow our circumstances to change how we view God, and that is a very human thing to do, but can we try putting our faith in God first. We have to learn to trust Him first not when we are all out of options. God should always be the one we go to first. It is better to put our faith in God while floating in a sea of opportunity than to wait until we have hit rock bottom. There are multiple reasons why we say no one compares to God, every person can name at least three reasons if not more.We make these blanket statements all the time but when all's said and done and everything is on the line do we really believe it? What I mean by that is, why do we put things in the place of God if no one compares to Him. Why do we look for validation in so many places when God is standing right there? I can speak for myself and say that sometimes I act like God is not enough, sometimes I act like there are things and people who are better than God, who can help me more. Because sometimes, and I’m being honest, I don’t want to pray or read my bible I’d rather talk to my friends who will be there physically. And every time I come out realizing that I should have gone to God first, I took a detour when there was no reason to. We have to realize the magnitude of this statement when we say so, no one compares. It’s like saying no one compares to Whitney Houston’s singing, or Muhammad Ali’s boxing, or Viola Davis’s acting. When we make those statements we are initially saying that they are untouchable in their field they are so great that there is no one that is could be equal to them.
That is exactly what we mean when we say that there is no one who compares to God, not even the highest king in all the universe, not even the pope compares to God. No one, there is no one that can be equal to such a great being.
There is no one love that compares to God, no grace that compares. There is no one quite like God.

As Christians, we live to push to live our lives like Christ and love like God, and as close as we get to it, we don’t even compare. That is why He is God, we will never surpass who He is, which is why we are forever serving Him.

Reflection/ Response

When you think about today’s topic and scripture what is your initial response? Take the time to reread the passage and scripture and respond.

Prayer Time

Allow your response to guide your prayer, talk to God about whatever stood out to you, ask Him or larity and understanding. Have a conversation with Him.

Day 49: Worthy of Our Praise

Have you ever been in a situation and the only explanation you have for getting through it is God. You can’t say anything else but, “It was God.”

Sometimes I am so in awe of my heavenly Father that words fail me because they cannot describe how awesome God is. I live for those moments, the ones where I look back over my life and see how God’s hand has always been on me, how he was guiding me the whole time. How we was going before me, and fighting on my behalf, clearing the path so I can walk through untouched.
-Dyamond

God is just that great, we might not see His hand but we know it’s there. We will probably never be able to wrap our minds completely around the goodness of God. We learn more and more everyday about how great He is. The honest to God truth is that some things man can never understand, some things are so far beyond our capability that there is no other explanation but a living god.

Psalms 118:16
The strong right arm of the LORD is raised in triumph. The strong right arm of the LORD has done glorious things!

In the Lord we find victory, and peace. The glory of God is our stronghold, God has done so much for us, He is constantly working on our behalf. We are constantly thanking God for what He has done and what He is going to do, but I want to add something onto that. Let’s thank God for what He is doing right now, don’t wait until the storm is over, or until we get what we want to praise Him, he deserves our praise every second of everyday. He is glorious, all things good come from Him. We serve an all powerful, all knowing, God.
The most amazing thing about God is that no matter what happens, or what we do, He could never love us less. God loved us even when we didn’t deserve it. He is the one constantly keeping us going, He is the one who gives us a reason to live everyday, just by waking us up. There is nothing too big for Him. We find hope in the Lord because we know that there’s always a victory in His hands, even when we are in our darkest days, our deliverance, or breakthrough lies in the hands of God.

Psalms 150
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
The chapter alone tells us to praise the Lord thirteen times throughout six verses. It says let everything that has breath praise the Lord. We have the very breath of God running through our bodies. That alone is to be praised. His breath gave us life, and continues to breath into us everyday. When we think about our lives, when we look at the positions we are in, we start to see that God’s hand is on us. We start to see his glory showering and hovering over our lives. He is worthy of our praise, as His children we are to live to worship Him. We are made to worship. No matter where we are in life there is always something to thank God about, because literally we are nothing without Him. I know this is something we say often but when we put in in perspective, who are we without God? If we removed God completely from the picture, what do we have? We cannot breathe without Him, we cannot walk without HIm, we cannot be a person without Him. We cannot live without Him. The same person that wakes us up in the morning is the same person who puts food on our table, the same person who makes sure that our hearts are beating is the same person who makes sure we are clothed, and warm (He created the source of warmth, the sun). God has His hand in every part of our life. We must praise Him with everything. Because everything we are is because of everything He is.

Reflection/ Prayer Time

Today, take the time to recognize the greatness of our God. The glorious hand of our Savior. The powerful and merciful God, the alpha and Omega, the Great I AM. Recognize how God’s hand is on your life. Take the time to thank HIm, take the time to talk to God about how much He means to you. Take as much time as you want or need and just rest with God. Spend time with Hmm, whatever that means to you, but take some time to give your full attention to God, and love on Him. God is so great!

I pray that you day and/or evening is amazing. I love you, enjoy yourself, and make sure you come back tomorrow for Day 50!
