Day 295: When It Seems Impossible

Luke 18:27

But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”

Many of us have been in positions where we felt like whatever we were going through was impossible to get out of. It seemed like not even God could help. I’ve been in that position multiple times in my life. I feel like sometimes when we are going through rough times that things seem to get worse before they get better. They seem to continue to fall out of control the more we try to hold them together. But through it all we still try to worship God, we still give God our all because something tells us, that little small voice let’s us know that God’s got it under control. It doesn’t mean that it’s easy, or that it gets easier it becomes bearable. Until God comes through it’s bearable. We endure, we stand on His promise waiting for Him to move. Waiting for Him to bring us through this mess. I know sometimes it’s like, “Alright God, where you at? I’m hanging on by a thread.” Even in those moments God knows exactly when He’s going to step in. He knows how strong we are because He gave us that strength. These moments are a test of faith, strength, and endurance.

Romans 5:3-5

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

How many of you have gone through something and come out different than before? You come out a completely different person. You come out better than you were before. God sustained us, He taught us how to endure in those hard times and stand on His promises, and trust Him. He’s building us, and like a diamond take an immense amount of pressure to become beautiful, sometimes we need to be pressured. Sometimes we have to be broken so God can rebuild us. As the scripture tells us above, problems help develop endurance, and that endurance builds strength of character, and that strength of character gives us hope in a salvation through Jesus Christ. God is molding and shaping us into the people He wants us to be and that will not always be easy, nor will it feel good but it will be worth it. He’s showing us how to lean on Him and trust in His sovereign power and lean into His faithfulness.

All this to say, when it seems most impossible that’s when God will step in a show us just who He is. That’s when God will step in to take care of His children. One things for sure is that He will never leave us. He will not walk away from us in our moment of need. He will not walk away from us at any moment. Just know that whatever you’re going through, it’s not impossible. It’s building you, so until God steps in stand. Endure, know that He’s watching you and He knows your strength, He built you, He loves us so much.

Response/Prayer Time

I don’t know what you’re going through, I don’t know what struggles you have face or what you are facing in this moment. But give it to God, open your heart to God, even if it’s broken. Stand on His word, lean on Him and trust Him, He has everything under control. Talk to God about what we discussed today. Spend some extra time with Him today.

Day 288: Living Well Series (Part 3):Our Living is a Result of Our Loving

Today we continued with our "Living Well" series and we talked about how loving God and loving people is basically a way of living. We  proposed the question how are we loving, are we loving the way God wants us to love. We talked about how love changes the way we live. We focused on 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, Matthew 22:37-40, Ephesians 5:2, 2 John 15-6, John 12:34-35.

"When we come into the knowledge and understanding of God’s unconditional love towards us, it changes our lives, and ultimately changes how we live."

Day 289: Living Well Series (Part 4): Life is So Beautiful

Today we closed out our "Living Well" series. We talked about how beautiful life is, how beautiful life can be when we see it through the lens of God's eyes. We talked about how God raises us like a parent raises a child from birth to adulthood. We went into what it means for us to be born again, when we accept Christ into our lives. We focused on 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 John 2:6, and Ephesians 5:1-2.

"As Christ begins to change our hearts, He begins to weed out the things that do not need to be there. Being born again is a process of purification, elimination, healing, it’s like a detox. He’s taking things from us that we don’t need and giving and equipping us with everything we will ever need."

Day 290: It's Possible!

Today we talked about how often times we look at living a sinless life as impossible. But all we have to do is submit ourselves to Christ and take the example He gave us and live how He lived. We talked about how Jesus gets it, He was born a human just like us and tempted just like us, yet He lived a life completely free of sin. We focused on Hebrews 4:15.

"God gives us strength in those moments of weakness to escape, He always gives us a way out. There is always another choice, another door to go through, we do not have to fall every time. God is standing right there with us in those moments but He will not make the decision for us. Sometimes we have chosen to be weak because it is easier."

Day 291: Waiting for "The One"

Today we talked about relationships and waiting for that special someone God has for us, we talked about how God has someone special for all of us and even though we have to wait, when the time is right it will all be worth it. We talked about how there is someone out there for all of us, and that God is the perfect matchmaker. I can't say too much or I'll give it away, you gotta read it. We focused on Matthew 6:33, Genesis 2:18, Jeremiah 29:11, and 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

" Sometimes we settle for people that do not fit us, We settle for people not just because we’re lonely but because they have what we think we want. They have the whole package according to our standards. But what about God’s standards? What about His plan? We must get to a point where we are not willing to sacrifice our faith for pleasure."

Day 292: This Beautiful Image

Today we literally broke down Psalms 23 verse by verse. We talked about this beautiful image David paints in this passage with His words or poetry. But more important than that we talked about the beautiful image God is painting through the message of His word. We obviously focused on Psalms 23.

"God is beautiful. He paints these beautiful images with His word, but going beyond that, God is just so beautiful. I mean He did create beauty. Everything He touches is beautiful, all things from God are beauty."

Day 293: But Wait...There's More!

Today we talked about how God does more than we could ever ask for expect. We basically talked about how God is always outdoing us, and showing us up in the best way possible. We discussed how God goes a step further than what we'd expect and continues to pour His love and blessing out on us.

We focused on Malachi 3:10 and Ephesians 3:20.

"God will go above and beyond for us, because He loves us that much. Sometimes we are waiting for God to move in our lives, waiting on promises, and when they do come to pass God makes the wait so worth."

Day 293: But Wait...There's More!

Ephesians 3:20

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Malachi 3:20

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!

Recently I had a realization, that no matter how big I dream, no matter how grand my plan is for myself and my life, God will always top that. It’s mindblowing to think about. Most people who know me know that I’m a dreamer, and I dream big, not only that but somehow someway all of my dreams are going to come to pass. It’s crazy when I sit and think of all the things I want out of life, and I’m reaching for the stars, I get a revelation that even in those moments God is bigger. Meaning He has a bigger vision, and a grander plan. That makes me trust Him even more. It pushes me to lean into His will a little more. God can do far beyond what we can ever think, or ask. That’s just a testament of how great God is compared to us, He expand our dreams, expands our faith, and expands our expectations. Simply because He is that good. I mean we’re talking about the guy who created the entire universe and everything in it.

When God blesses us, He really blesses us. It’s like a proud parent showering their child with gifts. God will go above and beyond for us, because He loves us that much. Sometimes we are waiting for God to move in our lives, waiting on promises, and when they do come to pass God makes the wait so worth. It’s a beautiful thing when we expect things from God. When we are waiting for Him to move miraculously in our lives, because He goes beyond our expectations. Over the summer I was really struggling with how we were going to pay tuition this year. I have struggling with this my entire time in school, and this times it seemed close to impossible. My family was going through so much financially, I couldn’t find a job, no one was willing to give me a loan and no one was willing to cosign. I found one person to co-sign and it got denied. Everything got denied. So I just kept praying and kept trusting God. I did not know how it was going to happen but I knew it was going to happen. But here’s the thing, I was expecting God to provide a loan approval, or enough money to start the payments. I called financial aid to see what they could do and they all told me there was nothing they could do. So I prayed some more and emailed the president of the school. Three days later I got an email saying, they would increase one of my grants. But wait...there’s more, they gave me a scholarship that would cover the rest of my tuition for not one but both semesters! I started screaming and broke out into tears, I was not expecting that but God went beyond my expectations and did something I did not even think of. Then I got offered not one but two jobs. I didn’t know how I was going to take care of myself financially, but I have four on-campus jobs. But wait...there’s more, I didn’t think I would get a refund check, but I went to the financial aid office and they had one there waiting for me, so now I don’t have to worry financially. God just keeps on blessing me, and it’s beyond whatever I could think or imagine.

I think many times  it depends on our faithfulness, God will bless those who are faithful. He is looking at the ones who are constantly faithful to Him, and obeying Him. God sees that and He rewards the ones whose hearts stay with Him. This is not to say that we should only serve God for a blessing, but that faithfulness definitely pays off. Yes it pays off in eternity but it also pays off while we’re still on earth. We all have something that we want from God, continue to be faithful and wait what He will do. I’m a living testimony of what happens when God is faithful to us and we are faithful to Him.

All this to say, don’t underestimate God. Keep dreaming big and expecting God to move in your life and He will do more than you could ever imagine.

Reflection/Prayer Time

Just take the time to thank God that He is faithful. Take the time to pray and be grateful for who He is and what He does. Reflect on the times where you have seen Him move in your life. Reflect on the times when maybe you weren’t as faithful to God but He remained faithful to you. Take that with you as you pray today and pray however you feel led. Have a conversation with Him, if you need something tell Him, tell Him your greatest hopes and dreams and watch what He does.

Day 292: This Beautiful Image

Psalms 23

1The Lord is my shepherd;

   I have all that I need.

2 He lets me rest in green meadows;

   he leads me beside peaceful streams.

3     He renews my strength.

He guides me along right paths,

   bringing honor to his name.

4 Even when I walk

   through the darkest valley,

I will not be afraid,

   for you are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff

   protect and comfort me.

5 You prepare a feast for me

   in the presence of my enemies.

You honor me by anointing my head with oil.

   My cup overflows with blessings.

6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me

   all the days of my life,

and I will live in the house of the Lord

   forever.

I just want to talk about this beautiful image that David paints in the world renowned passage. We all know Psalms 23 or have heard it or read it somewhere. It is a very famous passage, but it was not until recently that I found myself taken by the beauty of this passage. We serve a God who does great things, and is always faithful. I think one of the things we can attribute to God is beautiful. Everything He is, everything He does, is beautiful. Beautiful beyond words. My favorite moments are the ones when I can just take in the beauty of God’s creation, take in the beauty that He is, and carry that with me. It feels so good, it’s a feeling that cannot be described.

I talk about this beauty because I think this passage has that. From the words that are beautifully written but most importantly the message. From the first verse to the sixth, the message here is awe inspiring. I’m going to do a verse by verse breakdown, because I want you to experience the beauty of this message as well.

We have everything we need because the Lord is our shepherd. Everything we could ever need is in our God. As long as we follow Him we will have it all.

God gives us rest. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a meadow or been in one but they are so beautiful and so relaxing. It’s like this large open field of grass, that just makes you want to relax when you see a picture of it. Then the scripture goes on to say that God leads us beside peaceful streams. I think this a testament of what it is like to walk with God. It’s a beautiful life. Not everyone is resting in meadows and walking beside peaceful streams. But this is where God takes His people.

Verse three talks about His strength. God renews our strength. He is constantly pouring into us. The more God pours into the more glory is brought to His name. God give us strength in every moment of our lives. Our lives will always bring glory to His name.

Walking with God means that there is no place for fear. Even when we are in our darkest moments, God is right there with us leading us through. He comforts us when we need it. He is right there protecting us, going to battle for us and destroying anything that will try to harm us. I wonder how many times God has intercepted an attack from satan. An attack that never reached us because God goes before us to clear the path.

Verse five, God does a much better job at handling our enemies than we do. God honors us in the presence of everyone who was against us. He pour so much into us that our cup overflows. God will pour out blessings, on blessings, on blessing upon His people. That’s how much He loves us, He will give us more than we ask for. Walking with God brings some pretty hefty rewards.

We will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Yes, serving God brings some hefty blessing but none can compare to eternity with Him. Nothing can compare to the Joy and peace we have in Him. It says goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life. God is in constant pursuit of our hearts. He is good, and His love is unfailing. This is the type of love that pursues. God wants us to know of His goodness and for us to experience His unfailing love. It is so beautiful how great He is.

All this to say, God is beautiful. He paints these beautiful images with His word, but going beyond that, God is just so beautiful. I mean He did create beauty. Everything He touches is beautiful, all things from God are beauty. I just want us to dwell in that beauty. Live in it. Life is beautiful because God is beautiful.

Reflection/Prayer Time

Take the time to go over Psalms 23, reread it again, and take in the beauty of this message, and the beauty of the image that is being painted with these words. Take that with you as you pray today. Have a conversation with God about what we discussed today. Take the time to praise Him and thank Him that He makes all things beautiful.

Day 291: Waiting for "The One"

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

In our twenty’s we are coming to the age when we are either in long term relationships, dating, engaged, or married. The topic of relationships comes up a lot. Whether we are talking about the type of person we want to be with, the type of relationship we want, or even thinking about settling down and starting a family. Whatever it may be, I think it is time we have a mature conversation about this subject that seems to be glossed over so much. This is something that has constantly been coming up in my conversations recently. Everyone is looking for that one person we can spend the rest of our lives with, however when we are in Christ we are waiting for that person. We are waiting for whoever it is God has for us, and trust me there’s someone out there that God has chosen specifically for you, and you have been chosen specifically for someone else. God is great, on top of everything He does, He’s also the ultimate matchmaker. It’s great, it’s beautiful. There is so much peace in knowing that we do not have to go out looking for the right person because God already has them picked out, and whoever this person is will be far beyond what we ever expected. However there are a few questions I would like to pose and a few points to make.

Are we seeking a relationship with God more than we are seeking a earthly relationship with someone? We can get so caught up sometimes in wanting to be with someone, liking someone, or just wanting to be in a relationship that we forget about the first relationship we need to be in. In order for us to have a good and stable relationship with anybody else we must have a good and stable relationship with God. Sometimes we are going after people that are no good for us, we are going after people that we are not meant to be with, because we are more focused on them than we are on God. That presents a problem The scripture tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to us. There’s a pattern to life and it always involves keeping God first and then watching everything fall into place. So if we want a relationship if we want that person that God has for us, we cannot look outside of Him. We must be so wrapped up in Christ that our significant other has to find Christ to find us. What I’m saying is, Jesus is our first love and will always be our first love. Before we fall in love with anyone else we must fall in love with Him first.  

Genesis 2:18

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

I love the scripture in genesis as it ends with the statement, “I will make him a helper fit for Him.”  Sometimes we settle for people that do not fit us, We settle for people not just because we’re lonely but because they have what we think we want. They have the whole package according to our standards. But what about God’s standards? What about His plan? We must get to a point where we are not willing to sacrifice our faith for pleasure. Where we are so rooted in our faith where we don’t want to be near anything that could jeopardize that. I was recently talking to a friend about what I want from a relationship, and the first thing is they have to love Jesus, I want someone that will love me, but love Jesus so much more, and that’s not something I am willing to sacrifice. No matter how attractive they are, or how many standards they meet, I am not willing to sacrifice my faith for a relationship with someone. I would rather wait and move on God’s timing. He knows the plan, He knows when we are going to meet that person. God knows the exact moment it will happen. But in the meantime, while we wait, let’s work on our relationship with Him. Let’s work on fitting into the will of God before trying to fit someone into our will.

While we wait god is molding and shaping us into the people He has called us to be. He is taking out the things that should be there, and teaching us to walk like Christ. Leading us down this road called life. God has work to do on us before He sends the person He has destined for us to spend the rest of our lives with. He isn’t going to send us into this relationship with baggage, He won’t allow us to ruin what He is putting together.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited, does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

One of my favorite things to talk about is love, Not just romantic love, but love in general, because it is so beautiful. Love is so powerful. I just love, love. I think it is the best thing we have. Because God is the best thing we have and God is love. With that being said, we are talking about love in a romantic way today. God teaches us how to love properly, He teaches us how to love people, and ultimately how to love our significant others. The scripture above is a definition of what love is, before we get into a relationship with anyone we must know what love is, we must know how to love. Love requires patience, kindness, forgiveness, it is not conceited, envious, or boastful. When we read the above scripture we see just how beautiful love is. This is the way God wants us to love our partners. The way He has called us to love any and everyone.

All this to say, God has a special someone out there for all of us. Let’s not let our loneliness or want to be in a relationship blind us from what God is doing. Some of us may have to wait longer, but no matter how long the wait is, it will be so worth it.

1. Are you waiting for the person God has for you or are you settling for what you want?
2. What is your perfect person? Describe them, ideally what and who would they be?
3. Are you willing to sacrifice your faith to get that person?
4. Are you seeking a relationship with God more than you are seeking a relationship with someone else?

Prayer Time

Allow your answers to the aboves questions guide your prayer. Have a conversation with God about what we discussed today. Then pray for your future spouse, whoever it is God has for you, pray for that person, even though you don’t know who they are yet. Trust me someone is out there praying for you too.

Day 290: It's Possible

Hebrews 4:15

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

That last statement makes the point I want to make today. Today we are going to continue on the subject of living and take it a bit in a different direction. Have you ever been under the impression that living a Christian lifestyle is hard? Have you ever felt like living a sinless life was impossible? Because we are human and we are going to mess up. However the above scripture is proof that it is possible. We sometimes forget that Jesus was fully human as much as He was fully God. We forget that He was born like the rest of us, He was given free will like the rest of us, He had to grow up from a child like the rest of us. He experienced the same things we did growing up. He had to listen to His mother, it didn’t matter if He was the Messiah or not. He experienced pain, loss, grief, and anger. He cried when Lazarus died, it hurt Him. I say all of this to be reminded that Jesus is human, just like we are. With that being said, He knows what’s it’s like to be tempted. To live in a world full of sin. We read about how satan tempted him in the gospels. We are not serving a God who does not know what we are going through. We are not following someone who sat on a throne and just told us how to live. No we know how to live because He came here to Earth and showed us, He gave us an example not just verbal instructions.

Going through all of this to get to the point of today, He was without sin. He went through all of this, He went through so much, He was tempted and yet He is without sin. That’s someone that we can look up to. That’s someone we can look to as an example on how to live a sinless life. Jesus did it, so can we.

Sometime we lean too much into the idea that we are human and making mistakes is inevitable. We kind of use that as a crutch or something to fall back on when we decide to sin. I cannot tell you how many times I have used that as an excuse to do what I wanted. Countless times I have blamed my sin on my humanity as if I never knew right from wrong. Yes it is very true that we are human and we are going to make mistakes, but that does not mean that we plan those mistakes. It does not mean that we intentionally go against what we know is right just because “we’re human” and “things happen”. Things don’t just keep “happening” especially sin, when we know better we do better. At some point we have to give up the desires of the flesh if we want to live and please God. We cannot keep using the sames excuses to keep doing the same things. God gives us strength in those moments of weakness to escape, He always gives us a way out. There is always another choice, another door to go through, we do not have to fall every time. God is standing right there with us in those moments but He will not make the decision for us. Sometimes we have chosen to be weak because it is easier. We blame it on how weak our flesh is, when we’ve been in a relationship with Christ, at some point our desire to feed and please our flesh will be drowned out by our desire to please God and do His will. We may start off weak, but we most definitely do not stay that way.

All this to say, living a sinless life is possible, but here’s the catch, we cannot do it without Christ. We cannot stand against temptation on our own, every time we’ve tried we’ve failed.  We cannot live a life free of sin away from Christ, it will not work. That was the whole purpose of Him coming to save us in the first place. We obviously cannot live on our own, we need Him.

Reflection

1. Have you ever felt like being a Christian was too hard?
2. If so, what did you find hard about it?
3. Have you ever used, “I’m human” as an excuse to sin when you knew it was wrong?
4. Have you ever found yourself trying to beat temptation without Christ?

Prayer Time

Allow you answers to the above questions guide your prayer today. Whatever stood out to you today talk to God about it. Maybe He’s leading you to repent or even give you heart to Him if you haven’t.

If that’s you, if you’ve never given your life to Christ, now is the time to make that decision. If you want to walk with Christ and be set free from the bondage of sin and shame say this prayer with me.

“Jesus I declare that you are my Lord and Saviour who died for my sins and was raised three days later. I repent of my sins and I give my life to you. I believe in my heart that you are the true living God. I pray that you shine  light on me and bring me out of the darkness and into your light. I love you Lord. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name, Amen.”

Day 289: Living Well Series (Part 4): Life is So Beautiful

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

1 John 2:6

the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

Ephesians 5:1-2

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

As this series comes to a close, today we are going to discuss what this entire series is about in the first place. It’s about our living, how we lives and does it imitate Christ. Coming to Christ means changing the way we live, and this is not a change that we can make on our own. We become a new creature when we give our lives to Christ, everything that we used to do that kept us separate from Him is gone. The life we used to live that was not pleasing to Him, yeah that’s gone too. We are a completely new creation. We are born again, we have a clean slate, and it’s like we get another chance at life, this time to do it right. It’s beautiful. I love the idea of being born again, because a newborn baby is so pure, so righteous, so clueless, and as that child grows they learn, from their parents how to live, what is right and wrong. Their parents raise them the best way they know how. However as humans we are born into sin. So when we give our lives to Christ it’s like coming into life all over again. We are so pure, so full of faith, and passion for the Lord. Through Christ we are adopted into the body of Christ. We have accepted Him as our Lord and Savior and from that point on God raises us to be more like Him every day of our lives. He raises us to live like Christ, He gives us an example, Jesus, and a guide, the Holy Spirit. He raises us like a parent raises a child from birth. The only difference is, God never stops raising us. He’s constantly pouring into us. Revealing Himself to us. Teaching us about who He is, how we are to live and love. It’s a beautiful life. God literally teaches us how to live well.

As we grow in Him, our lives begin to change to fit His will, not the other way around. Sometimes in life we will find moments where we are tempted to pick and choose what parts of the bible are “for us” and what parts are not. With that being said, some things are very hard to swallow, However, we must commit ourselves to following Christ with every part of our being. Every part of our lives must be wrapped up in Christ. There is no part of us or our lives that should be separate from Him. As Christ begins to change our hearts, He begins to weed out the things that do not need to be there. Being born again is a process of purification, elimination, healing, it’s like a detox. He’s taking things from us that we don’t need and giving and equipping us with everything we will ever need. We start to give up those things that we thought we needed and wanted and we begin to latch onto the goodness of Christ. We begin to live like Him. We begin to see the world through the eyes of Christ. That my friends is living well.

All this to say, as long as we abide in Christ and walk like Him, allowing the word of God to penetrate our hearts and take root, we are living well. (Run-on sentences for days) Life is beautiful, and when we live abiding in Christ we are overtaken by the beauty of this amazing life.

Response/Prayer Time
